Refuse marital benefits for same-sex couples

Saturday March 28, 2009

In my February missive, I refuted P. Gregory Springer's claim that sexual
orientation is not a choice and that it cannot be changed. I also stated that
God's plan was for only man and woman to marry and that God said homosexuality
is a sin.

What homosexuals want are marital benefits available to same-sex
married couples; they want to obtain these by claiming that they are victims of
a biological disorder. But homosexuality is not a biological disorder, and
homosexuals should not be awarded these benefits.

Joe McNamara responded to the sin aspect by citing scripture about
divorce and remarriage. He said that marriage after divorce amounts to adultery
because divorce and remarriage violate God's divine principle of permanent
union.

Jesus Christ, who was God in the flesh, made an exception for divorce.
Therefore, divorced heterosexuals who remarry are not committing adultery. God
can make any changes that he wants, and whatever he changes is still
perfect.

God decreed that only man and woman are to marry. First, Adam and Eve
were married. Last, Christ and his bride will be married.

Lawmakers who pass laws contrary to God's will, like allowing
homosexuals to marry, cannot say that they are just doing their jobs because
they are not exempt from doing God's will.
When Christ returns, will
homosexuals tell him that homosexuality is a biological disorder?

Let me restate this: Jesus is our source of truth...and even in a short argument, we must appeal to Him. It just needs, at least I believe, to be accompanied by an argument (based on His truth) that can stand alone.

Turek Vs Hitchens debate

Letter to the editor

It’s been a few years since I’ve come to live in and to serve Farmer City. Over the years I have listened to some people’s critical analyses of our city’s current condition. I have heard some reflect on the way things used to be. And though I understand some people’s frustration, I still couldn’t help but to fall in love with this community. In my heart of hearts I believe that a community is defined not by its infrastructure or the number of businesses that line its Main Street; but by its people, and the people here are good, they care, and all seem to want the very best for our community. It is this spirit that is alluring. It is this spirit that, given a chance, can do great things that will benefit not only its citizens now, but generations to come.

The church I serve, First Baptist Church (FBC), has recently teamed up with our local Kiwanis group. We share in common this desire to see Farmer City thrive and we are deeply committed to sacrificially serving this community. The project on our hearts right now is the restoration of Weedman Park. The playground equipment is aging, deteriorating, splintering, and, for the most part, is going unused. At the very least, it does not reflect who we are as a people. The City has given us the green light to start this restoration project and we look forward to working with others in our community over the next few months to make this thing happen. If you would like more information on how you too can help, I’d invite you to give me a call at 309 928 9062 or e-mail me at fcbcpastor@yahoo.com. I personally look forward to serving the community that I so deeply love.

Pastor Mike Jenkins

Fair and Balanced Reporting

This was in this evening's News Gazette opinon section. Sort of a religious relativist's view with an appeal to the Constitution as an absolute authority. Enjoy

Rev. Jenkins' reply (Mar. 2) to my Feb. 20 letter demonstrates the truth of
my statement: there are disagreements among Christian denominations concerning
biblical interpretations. Sometimes they are minor, sometimes quite large. In
fact, many churches welcome homosexuals into their congregations, even into
their clergy. I think it's wonderful we live in a country that makes room for us
all.

Please forgive me if my earlier letter made it appear as if I wished to
change the personal beliefs of others; that is not the case. Certainly if a
denomination chooses to not bless homosexual unions within its own organization,
that is their right, and I support it even though I disagree.
But to deny homosexuals the right to union based on religious beliefs is contrary to our constitution.

Our country was founded in part on the concept of freedom to choose
one's religion without coercion or force. To force upon our society a single
mindset based on religion is to create a theocracy. One need only look at
today's world to see how dangerous a theocracy can be. There are indeed many different views on the Bible, and varying translations. Who would deny that King James caused the Bible to be edited?

Or that there are dozens of Protestant versions of the Bible? That the
Catholic Bible is different from the King James and subsequent versions?

Personally, I am thankful our country allows us all to choose for
ourselves. I believe that all should be treated equally under the law,
including homosexuals. I also believe that Jesus would approve.

I will not respond to this letter. He is a lightweight who’s not even sticking up for his views. If a view is wrong, then it is wrong and it needs to be stopped. Furthermore, he’s using a strawman who meets are red herring here. KJV debate…come on.

update

My Son's VOT ad:

I haven’t felt like writing much on my blog in the last few weeks. I’ve been focusing on a new class I’m teaching, sermons, reading, studies, and helping a few other groups raise funds for Weedman Park. We just met with the City tonight and got approval to go ahead with the project. Lord willing we should have the center piece installed by the beginning of summer. My next letter to the editor will be sent to the Journal bringing attention to this project.

I’m also praying about starting a support group for people who have suffered loss. I’ve had considerable training in this area and see a need for it in the community. The course I’m looking at starts at about $600 and I will most likely have to fund this. I’m praying for clear guidance on this.

On another note, we will be carrying an awesome debate on Sunday, April 5th between Dr. William Lane Craig and Christopher Hitchens. After the debate, we will open it up for comments and questions. Everyone is invited.

Hate reborn

Oh those days long since past when we had a monster named Bush we could hate (sarcasm here). Yes, the remnants of hatred still hold true. The problems of today are inherited after all.

But we moved on. Now we’re being led by hope and change and love…lets face it: it just doesn’t inspire as much as hate. We need a new monster! We need a new baby killing, people enslaving, senior citizen hating fat white dude!

Once again, Obama gives us hope! A new enemy (actually, he’s not so new) to hate and loath! Rush Limbaugh, the face of the Republican…of manifest evil. Now the masses can focus on the enemy while those with the smarts can lead us to where they think we need to be.

Bill Hull's "The Complete book of Discipleship:

People often think they're spiritual, but they can't get along or work with
others. The inability to live together with others provides pretty
compelling evidence that we're not living with the humility and grace that Jesus
called us to.
